PPE – Your Master’s Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics
Our society is currently confronted with hardships that cannot be overcome by simply applying non-global old-fashioned strategies.
Intercontinental migration, climate change, economic inequality, ethnic wars and political radicalisation are challenges that need more than a retrospective glance at what has been done before.
That is why we have designed the
PPE Master Programme –

Studium fundamentale
15 ECTS
Thursday is Stufu-day at Witten/Herdecke University. On this day, you will meet students of all faculties and enhance your skills in liberal arts and humanities including history, music, dancing, sculpting, theatre, and literature. You will also improve your abilities in several soft skills as well as in group dynamics and communication.
Having been the first of its kind in Germany, the Studium fundamentale at Witten/Herdecke University has been celebrated as ‘groundbreaking’ by the Mercator foundation.

Witten’s PPE students are as diverse as their interests and expectations regarding the programme. We are therefore committed to provide you with the opportunity to design your course contents in line with your interests. Hence, you will be able to set your own priorities while also having the chance of getting involved in further developing our curriculum.
Elective modules are an essential part of our PPE programme. They consist of majors from the disciplines of philosophy, politics and economics, as well as of free elective modules.
Many of our students are particularly interested in development and development policy. The PPE master degree programme thus includes a major in ‘Philosophy, Politics and Economics of Development’, approaching this topic from interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives.
